​Class Descriptions

Kid's Club

Kid's of any level that want to meet fellow chess players, learn from Growth Chess Coaches, and get a weekly USCF rated game. US Chess Membership Required for Kid's Club.

Typical Kid's Club includes:

  • Warm ups designed by GC Coaches

  • 30 minute lecture curated towards the group

  • Pizza Dinner Provided Weekly

  • Weekly G/25 d5 tournament style rated game, US Chess Membership Required. 

  • Game Analysis with GC Coaches after games

Fundamentals

Beginner level aimed at those just starting out in chess or those looking to master the basics. 

Typical instruction includes:

  • The Basic Rules of Chess

  • Basic Checkmates such as King & Queen vs King & King & Rook vs King.

  • Fun Mini Chess Games to help your child learn the pieces in a fun way!

  • Opening Principles

Knight & Bishop Level

Intermediate level aimed at those looking to improve their skills from beginner and beyond. Players must have established understanding of the basics and typically have a ChessKid rating up to 1500 or up or a Chess.com rating up to 1200

Typical instruction includes:

  • 1-2 Move Tactics (How to use pins, forks, skewers & more to win material)

  • Intermediate Endgames such as King & Pawn Endgames, Rook vs Pawns, and More!

  • Basic Opening Theory for Openings like the Italian & Ruy Lopez.

  • Game Analysis from the Chess Masters Games.

Tournament Team

A focused training group for dedicated scholastic players who are actively competing — or ready to begin — and want to sharpen their skills in a structured, supportive environment.

700+ US Chess or equivalent rating required.

What We Cover
Weekly sessions focus on key areas to boost tournament performance:

  • Multi-step tactics

  • Master game analysis

  • Advanced endgames

  • Tournament prep

  • Players are expected to play at least one tournament per month

 

What’s Included

  • Weekly 2-hour coaching sessions

  • One free Growth Chess Scholastic Tournament entry per month (July–October)

  • Game analysis support at WI Closed & Junior Open

  • Growth Chess Tournament Apparel Item

 

Team Levels

  • Gold Team: USCF 1200–1600

  • Blue Team: USCF 700–1199
